Good morning! It’s Wednesday, and right on schedule, the daylilies have started to open. While not true lilies, they do live up to the other half of their name. Each flower has but one day to open and be tickled by all the bees and butterflies they can. By the looks of things, that one day is enough.
I have such a fondness for ditch lillies - so much so that they were my wedding bouquet! They will always remind me of my hometown in upstate NY, where you could find clumps growing with wild abandon on the side of the road. Maybe not the most refined of flowers, but there is something to be said for thriving in rocky places and flaunting an unabashedly bright hue.
Our summer thrill this week has been seeing the first fawns. Tiny spotted fawns!
How fortunate we are to live in a small town where the deer roam the streets and we can tell the season by the size of the fawns. (Spoken like someone without a garden to protect...)
Henry David distills the wisdom of the ages -- at every moment, we stand in a When and a Where -- up next is our work to select from the wide array of Whats and Whos and Hows.

"Tickled open by all the bees and butterflies" is so wonderful and apt. What a way to start my Wednesday, thank you Clara! <3
Mine haven’t bloomed yet. They’re getting closer.
Fleeting beauty. An orange delight.
Thanks, the day lily is lovely. Reminds me of my childhood.
Amazing quote; thank you!

Always wondering, of course, about the Why.
