I also use the Merlin app and have found it immensely helpful! Even just in my own backyard!...

I've been using MerlinID to record bird calls and songs and perhaps will finally be able to remember them! I was so excited to hear a hermit thrush, the state bird of Vermont! I never realized wrens, sparrows, thrushes, have such beautiful songs. Thanks Clara!!

Wow--thanks for the song and the poem! There was some kind of thrush that sang in the early evenings just as I was walking the two miles home from the bus stop after work, when I lived in Tucson. He (I'm guessing) had the most beautiful, long, melodious song. His singing truly washed away the scurf of the long days.

I love the bird song and the quote. The concept of too much of something being exhausting resonates. Thank you Clara. I think I may have catbirds building a new nest along the back side of my house, not far from the robins. It won't be long before I will be able to hear the male catbird singing his evening song at sunset, a combination of his own song mixed with bits of other birds songs(catbirds are mimics like mockingbirds). Not all the time, just at sunset to dusk-- not too much, just enough.😌💖

This is so nice- thank you I really enjoyed listening. I must disagree with Mary Oliver although I love her poetry. I listen to my favorite music and artists all day every day - it is never too much. Some days it’s the only thing getting me through the day♥️

I hear you, Peggy - and thank goodness for your favorite music. I decided to agree with the poem but only because I can't imagine listening to Verdi or Mahler every day. 🤣

Their song is so pretty! Lately I’ve been noticing more birds singing when I step outside in the morning and it’s so cheerful! Yesterday was a bit different as the crow that likes to land on top of our chimney decided to scream into it which made it dog think the apocalypse was happening.

One of the first things that charmed us into buying our new house and uprooting our lives (in a good way) was hearing a hermit thrush singing in the woods here. Such a delightful sound, and we have them all year round!

The song of the thrushes, and how it makes me feel is beyond words. But thankfully Mary Oliver found the words and expressed it so beautifully.

They should be here soon, and I am so looking forward to it.
