Good morning! It’s Saturday, and we’ve returned home to far more spring than what we left behind. Last evening, after unpacking the car and putting everything away, I stepped outside to smell the air and listen to the raindrops on the porch roof. But instantly my ears heard something else—something they’ve been waiting for, something that provides irrefutable proof that our world is reawakening. The peepers have returned!
My cat wasn’t quite sure what to think about that, she came running over to me and tilted her head from side to side like my dog does 😂 I found it to be quite soothing!
I am speechless - except for the weeping. For joy? For wonder? For the blessing of Rachel Carson?
The first peepers always give me so much joy too!
Like the honking of geese, the cheeping of peepers immediately has me rolling my window down and trying not to squish any as I drive along. So spring!

A wonderful sound, like a spring alert: “Put up the screens! Open the windows!” Whoo hoo!

The only sounds I hear at night right now are a group of coyotes (in our suburban neighborhood) looking for a good time.
