Watch now (1 min) | Good morning! It’s Sunday, and we’re on the other side now. I haven’t actually talked to the ocean yet this morning, but she did invite me to stand by her a few days ago and record a message for you. Here it is. “The sea can do craziness, it can do smooth, it can lie down like silk breathing or toss havoc shoreward; it can give gifts or withhold all; it can rise, ebb, froth like an incoming frenzy of fountains, or it can sweet-talk entirely. As I can too, and so, no doubt, can you, and you.”
Hadn’t checked the news all weekend !! Did your power stay on? Holy moley! Glad you’re all right. Also grateful for your gifts of stunning scenery and Mary Oliver❣️
How calm and beautiful - and thank you for the very wise message! So glad you are safe.
Today, in Gulf of Alaska waters, gales to 45 kt are expected for Sunday morning. Seas are expected to be up to 20 ft. Ashore, rain heavy at times, winds currently 22 gusting to 31.
We’ve had over a half inch of rain since midnight and the spruces and alders are dancing with abandon. My junco friends have stayed in bed this morning but La Belle Chat is being a good lap warmer :-) Wishing a lovely autumn day to everyone!
Yes, we awoke to bright sunshine with the constant thrum of the generator here in our little patch of Maine. I thought Mary Oliver wrote that poem as it is in her book, A Thousand Mornings.
My sea today is a little too churned up. Buffalo Bills home opener is today and my street is right off of one of the main roads people take to the stadium. I was trying to sit on my porch with my tea, knitting and noise cancelling headphones, but by just past 9am, the road noise and buzzy energy were a little too much. I came inside and all three of my cats were wound up😬 Thank you for the video. The light in sky and the waves are so soothing 😌💖
Such a gorgeous view. And the quote is spot on. I have the utmost respect for the ocean. Its murmur can lull you to sleep, or its roar can terrify you. It can have small rippling waves, or it can, as it did in '62, come blocks inland and take my great aunt's cottage back to the depths with it. Day before yesterday we had huge crashing waves, and last night smaller ones. Hurricane Lee missed us, as I hope it did the rest of the coast. Hopefully Maine did not suffer lasting damage. Thank you for today's update.
Whew, good to know you are safe: hope your surroundings are in good shape. My sea today will be choppy.
We expect rain here in PA shortly. I’ve been asked to make banana bread — easy to do. The plants need watering. There’s a fine layer of dust over everything….windows open and too close to the road. Four of us will meet at the Library at 2 to take down the exhibit we stitchers put up in July. And I’m still thrilled to be stitching on the Desiderata sampler I bought in 2009, and started just last week. 🧐

Glad the storm has passed. I haven't visited my sea in the last few days but our weather is odd and unsettled for September.
