Good morning! It’s Thursday. We went down the road yesterday to check up on the ghosts one last time before everyone starts returning for the summer. Caretakers across the peninsula have been working furiously to get the last of the cottages opened, pipes reconnected, broken water heaters replaced, screens repaired, and lawns mowed before the cars with out-of-state plates arrive laden with canoes and bicycles and children freshly freed from school.
Okay, so I’ve done a bit of research and I’m not finding any children’s book written by Clara Parkes. The child in me is wishing for one. All the children are wishing for one. I just got back from staying at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis where the ducks parade into the lobby every morning and swim in the foyer fountain till five and then parade out again during cocktail hour. It’s just a delight to see. Most photographed ducks in the world! 🥰🦆
I guess the summer influx is the opposite of Make Way for Ducklings? Glad the duck got a final fling before the influx - of which I have been one, from NH but still not a Mainer. Miss those lilacs. I imagine the swing on a big oak tree next to a huge hedge of lilacs - such an aroma while swinging (or pushing).
I see what you did there. No big picture on top of text as usual, Very clever, Clara, making us use our imagination to SEE the duck on the swing. I did, I did see the duck on the swing and heard the playful conversation between you two. Plus it wraps up with an alliteration❤🦆
oh Clara, when are you going to write a book like this? Or maybe a children's picture book style, with a wonderful artist (Sydney Smith? google to see his glorious work, I can just imagine what he would do with your stories!), a year in Brooksville (isn't that your town's name?)... it's already half done, with so many vignettes that you have written here... and after each page, I would be reaching for the next, screeching with the baby snowdrops, "And then what??!!" (Can you tell how happy you made me with today's respite? That last line was utterly perfect.)
Great photo although yesterday I decided the lack of the photo was intentional and added to the mystery of Duck. Either way Duck is so charming.
I’m glad we didn’t have to miss this photo, because it’s funny! Thanks!
That is one lucky duck!
A little fun is all we need

Delightful image with which to start my day! Laughing duck having a chat on a swing. What a gift! Thank you.
What a pleasant duck.
Lucky duck that you were walking by to help him up on the swing!
A duck laughing and swinging is such a wonderful image! I will take it with me through the day. Thank you Clara!

I think I've said this before, but PLEASE write a children's book before my grandchildren all grow up!
