Good morning!
It’s Monday, and I’ve broken all my previous self-imposed rules and cut the very first peony to bloom in the garden. It is also, if I dare say so myself, the finest peony I’ve ever seen.
I offer it to you today for solace, strength, and company as you head into this new week. Whenever you need, you can close your eyes and lean in for a sniff and feel the soft, cool petals against your cheeks.
“Until we can comprehend the beguiling beauty of a single flower, we are woefully unable to grasp the meaning and potential of life itself.”
—Virginia Woolf
We can bask in the beguiling beauty and leave the understanding for another day.
Onwards,
Clara
A (male) gardener friend of mine once said to me, "Why grow anything you can't eat?" He was standing right next to my wonderful blooming fragrant peonies, and I couldn't resist replying (in my perhaps smart-alecky way) "We need to feed our souls too!" Many years later I'm now an ardent fan of gardening with native plants, but I can't live without peonies! Many thanks, Clara!
beautiful. our peonies are rushing into bloom with the extreme heat. several are now in our home. Happy mid-sommar!
