Good morning! It’s Wednesday, and it’s Juneteenth—a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. We’ve left our shimmering spruce and itty bitty seedlings behind, stepping out of the woods and into a grassy meadow that leads back up to the house. Here we notice a patch of wild daisies bobbing in the sunshine. And then we notice why they’e bobbing. A northern crescent butterfly is fluttering freely from floret to floret, feasting without a care in the world.
I think the butterfly and the daisies are celebrating the holiday. Now let her carry the message to the world to end slavery everywhere. I think she already carried pollen here. We now have daisies where we did not before. Cheerful flowers they are.
What a stunning butterfly—such an intricate shoulder cape! And the daisies make a perfect backdrop besides providing a tasty meal. Hoe delightful to eat in a restaurant that enhances one’s beauty!

Yikes! Daisies already? Where is the summer (technically not even started yet) going?
Wishes for safety and coolness to everyone in the heat wave.
