Good morning!
It’s Sunday, and it’s been a week in which the world has tried (successfully?) to out-loud itself. We’ve definitely earned ourselves some quiet time by the water—not just our usual minute, but 100 full seconds of calm. I’ve taken off my shoes and am wading to cool off. You’re welcome to join me. It’s quite refreshing.
We’re watching a schooner slowly, slowly, s-l-o-w-l-y make its way to our harbor for the night. And somewhere out there, our visiting whale still lurks. He’s been identified as a humpback, and this has been the most exciting news on our peninsula since the arrival of electricity.
But with all that cheering and attention, even our whale needs some quiet time.
“Let us be silent — so we may hear the whisper of the gods.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ever onwards,
Clara
p.s.—Thanks to Respiteer Virginia, I’ve learned that our “amaranth” is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It is not the nourishing, one-stop culinary shop that amaranth it is. I’m going to sit down with my thistle and have a talk about the company it keeps.
