I went out to look it up and I think that's as close to right as interpretation gets. Annie Dillard evidently evoked this phrase often in her writing. Emerson's quote comes from a letter he wrote to Margaret Fuller.
Variety is the spice of life. This variety of moth is fascinating. Its shape and color are so distinctive. A style of its own.
