Good morning!

It’s Thursday, and while we wait to see where a certain very large hurricane decides to make landfall, I thought I’d introduce you to my newest acquaintance. He came sauntering up the road a few days ago, in much the same fashion that top-secret carrier pigeon did earlier this summer.

The minute he saw me staring at him through the window, did he turn and run? Was there a frantic flapping of wings as he flew away? Quite the opposite. We made eye contact, and he promptly sat down in the middle of the road so that we could continue our staring contest. After a most excellent wordless exchange, he finally stood up and sauntered back down to the ocean.

Google University tells me this was a juvenile herring gull—and I’d love to know what he told his friends and family when he got back to the nest.

“We meet no ordinary people in our lives.”

— C.S. Lewis

Or birds.

Onwards we go,

Clara

You’re doing good work, Mary. I think the pollinators are very much your friends!

Honestly, it took me expanding the picture to gigantic pixels to see the bird was not a rock. Which it very well could have been, given your train of thought lately! :) <3
