Good morning!

It’s Sunday. A leaf-knocker of a wind blew through overnight, abruptly denuding the trees of their brilliant fall foliage. Now comes the tenuous dance between the last of the dahlias and the first killing frost. Which will arrive first?

Like much of the East Coast, we’ve been basking in a balmy spell up to now. On Tuesday, I went down to the water at sunset and experienced one of those perfect moments. The tide was high, the water warm and clear. So I rolled up my pants and went straight in, camera in hand.

“To me, the sea is like a person — like a child that I’ve known a long time. It sounds crazy, I know, but when I swim in the sea I talk to it. I never feel alone when I’m out there.”

Gertrude Ederle

On we go,
