Good morning!

It’s Sunday, and we’ve gone down the old dirt road to sneak into one of the oldest cottages. The pipes have already been drained, and in a matter of days the windows will be shuttered for the season. No need to set the wall clock back an hour, since nobody will be staying here until the clocks have turned back in the spring.

But there’s still a good stash of firewood, so I’ve taken the liberty of making us a fire in the wood stove. To give the proper pop and crackle, I added a few bits of pine and cedar kindling.

So grab a chair and come close and warm yourself before the day begins.

“If the world is cold, make it your business to build fires.”

—Horace Traubel

Onwards,

Clara

PS—I love this Horace Traubel quote not only for its wisdom but also for its irony. As I mentioned a few years ago, the church where Traubel’s memorial service was to take place burst into flames when his hearse pulled up.
