Good morning!
It’s Wednesday, and the woods are awash in tiny, bell-shaped Linnaea borealis, better known as twinflowers. I’ve brought you to my favorite patch, whose exact location, like all good things, must be kept a secret.
To reach it, we’ve ventured through a field of buttercups and daisies, skirted the edge of a swamp, inched sideways through a small opening in a tangle of firs, and wound our way between mossy woods and wetlands whose giant ferns evoke images of Jurassic Park. We knew we were getting close when the osprey started circling and scolding us—for even she wanted to place her nest where she could admire the flowers.
“The woods seemed all answer and healing and more than enough to live for.”

Onwards,
