Good morning!
It’s Saturday. On this day in 1895, French engineer Émile Levassor was first to cross the finish line in the world’s first automobile race. He made it from Paris to Bordeaux and back in just under 49 hours and at a a hair-raising speed of 15 miles per hour.
That’s only slightly faster than this go-kart my father built for us. My brothers took turns driving me around and around and around the driveway. It was my job to honk the horn.
Meanwhile, the drive from Paris to Bordeaux takes only six hours now. But I’m sure it’s nowhere near as fun.
“There are as many types of motion or change as there are meanings of the word ‘is’.”
