Good morning! It’s Thursday. Today’s master of disguise was found relaxing on a dahlia leaf in the pot by the barn. Our friend is so clever that even the bug-identifying gods in my phone can’t decide what it is—the two top contestants being a differential grasshopper or an oak bush cricket.
The two-contestant identification is the best part — a moth gets into my kitchen most humid nights and the phone app cycles through the same three guesses before giving up. I've started closing the light instead of solving it. The seed method, as Ciardi says, seems the better one anyway.
I think it's a katydid. I once had one of those hitch a ride to work with me on the back window of my car--true story.

Most likely it was a lime green grasshopper. It lived up to its name and simply hopped away into the grass. So it goes…
