I think it's a katydid. I once had one of those hitch a ride to work with me on the back window of my car--true story.

The two-contestant identification is the best part — a moth gets into my kitchen most humid nights and the phone app cycles through the same three guesses before giving up. I've started closing the light instead of solving it. The seed method, as Ciardi says, seems the better one anyway.

Excellent quote! I have never seen a grasshopper or cricket that color before! The ones near me are all various colors of tan/brown.

Most likely it was a lime green grasshopper. It lived up to its name and simply hopped away into the grass. So it goes…
