Good morning!
It’s Wednesday. Fresh on the heels of yesterday’s curled-up leaf that was actually a moth in disguise, we turn our attention to the black-eyed Susans that are currently blooming in abundance.
Who can resist the cheerful allure of those buttery golden petals? And yet the true attraction isn’t the petals at all, it’s that black eye in the center. Hidden within its depths are hundreds of individual tiny flowers laden with so much nectar that diners have been known to convert the black eye into a soft cushion for a mid-afternoon nap. There, camouflaged among the yellow and brown, our bumblebee can rest for a moment and feel safe.
“Form follows function—that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.”

A bonus writing… and the beauty of nature and Frank L Wright who cherished nature! And the Maryland state flower. 🌼
I have a tattoo of one on my left hand. It is in memory of my mother, whose father called her "black-eyed Susie" when she was a child.
