At first I thought it was an old book that had gotten wet!

Some pieces are so pretty. I especially like the birch when it flames up. We're letting our fire go out this PM because it's going to be 40 tomorrow. :(

I envy your gift of seeing life in everything you handle and in the perfect quotes which accompany them. I eagerly look forward to your daily posts. Thank you.

That is a beautiful piece of wood - my first thought on seeing it was what a gorgeous wood turning it would make for my husband - I agree - hard to burn it. I also agree that a wood fire is magical, in addition to being warm and practical. Enjoy that heat.

Maybe these delightful trees grew where the breeze was always blowing. They danced all their lives and listened to the music of nature. The warmth they will give off while burning will be something very special! Let us know.

A piece of fire wood can spark imagination!

The wood is lovely, as is the hand that holds it!

It’s quite beautiful.

That is an almost ribbon- like piece of wood! Beautiful for sure but also ready to give warmth and comfort. We ran out of wood early in the spring and have been mining a pile of wood in the backyard from when we took down a couple of trees damaged in a storm. It is working quite well to shop our own resources at least for now.

Hard work too - take care. When I lived on my farm in WV we got a lot of wood from our woodlot - was almost like canning - felt so good in the winter to have that fruit of your labor.

That delaminated wood looks like compressed books which have been damp and dried out so that the pages begin to separate. I think it must have been a journaller tree. Shame we can not read its secrets.

Clara Parkes's avatar

Good idea. We will keep those pages closed and sealed together.

I thought it looked exactly like that!

Love the comparison to wool . And I finished your book Vanishing Fleece! Thanks for opening my eyes to the whole processing of the wool with which I weave .

Thank you so much for reading my book, Leslie - I'm honored!

The first thing I saw was a waterlogged book, a sheaf of rippled pages!

Clara Parkes's avatar

Oh INTERESTING. Especially if you consider that the pages are, themselves, made of... perhaps this tree's great great great grandparents?

There is a relationship! But I also love your fleece/locks/crimp vision!
